Problems We Solve
Outdated Analog Security Cameras Produce Footage Too Poor to Use
The Challenge
Many facilities still rely on analog camera systems installed a decade or more ago. The footage these systems capture is often low resolution, grainy in low light, and recorded at a frame rate too slow to clearly show fast moving activity. When business owners actually need to review footage after an incident, they frequently discover that faces are unrecognizable, license plates are illegible, and key moments are missed between frames. The cameras appear to be working, the monitor shows a picture, but the recorded output is not good enough to support an investigation, an insurance claim, or identification of a suspect. The system provides a false sense of security rather than usable evidence.
Why This Happens
Analog camera technology was standard for years and many systems installed then are still physically functioning, so there has been no obvious trigger to replace them. Business owners often assume that because the cameras still power on and display an image, the system is doing its job. Upgrading to modern equipment can seem disruptive or expensive compared to leaving an existing system in place. Analog systems also tend to use older coaxial cabling and recorders with limited storage and resolution ceilings, so even replacing camera heads alone would not resolve the underlying quality problem. Without a technology review, these limitations usually go unnoticed until footage is actually needed for something important.
The Risk to Your Business
Poor quality footage undermines the entire purpose of having a camera system. If an incident results in a police report, an insurance claim, or a legal dispute, footage that cannot clearly identify a person, vehicle, or action carries little evidentiary value. Businesses may find they have hours of recorded video and still cannot answer basic questions about what happened. Low resolution footage also limits the usefulness of any future integrations, such as license plate recognition or remote monitoring, since those tools depend on clear source video. Continuing to maintain a system that cannot deliver usable results wastes resources that could go toward equipment capable of actually supporting an investigation.
How Cobham Tech Solves It
Cobham Tech evaluates existing analog camera systems and replaces them with modern IP based cameras that capture higher resolution video, perform better in low light, and record at frame rates suited to fast motion. We plan the upgrade around the facility's actual risk points, such as entrances, cash handling areas, and parking lots, rather than a one to one camera swap. Cabling, network configuration, and storage capacity are upgraded together so the system performs as a whole rather than being limited by outdated infrastructure. The result is footage that is actually usable when it matters, clear enough to identify individuals and vehicles, and stored reliably so it is available when law enforcement, insurers, or management need to review it.
